This week we looked at the story from Luke 7:36-50 where a sinful woman anoints Jesus' feet with expensive perfume and her tears at a Pharisee's house. The woman’s complete surrender, sacrifice, and worship contrasted her actions with the Pharisee's judgmental attitude. The message highlights Jesus' forgiveness of sins and the correlation between the magnitude of forgiveness and the depth of love shown in return.

Key Verses: Luke 7:36-38; Luke 7:47; John 3:16; Matthew 18:21-35

Reflection Questions

What strikes you most about the sinful woman's actions in this story?

Why do you think the Pharisee was so quick to judge both the woman and Jesus?

How does Jesus' parable about the two debtors relate to our own experience with forgiveness?

What might be in your own 'alabaster box' that you need to surrender to Jesus?

When was the last time you experienced a deeply emotional moment of worship like this woman?

How does this story challenge our attitudes toward those we might consider 'sinners'?

What prevents us from showing the same kind of uninhibited worship that this woman displayed?

Life Application

This week, identify something valuable in your life (time, talent, possession) that you've been holding back from God. Commit to surrendering it to Him as an act of worship, and journal about how this impacts your relationship with Him.
