I have heard it said many times that money is the root of all evil. Every time I hear that said, it reminds me how often people misquote or apply God’s Word in the wrong way.
The scripture referred to is found in 1 Timothy 6:10
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”
So, it is the LOVE of money and even that is not the full story…

Money is a tool like many others that if used wrong or is out of priority will cause pain.
It’s not money that is the problem, it is the love of money, the craving for more, the desire for riches that leads you down the wrong paths.
There are those who preach prosperity gospel in our culture. This is not preaching truth and could lead people away from the faith. Name it and claim it takes scripture out of context.
Security, contentment, and God’s favor are not measured by external circumstances. Rather it is the power of Christ at work in our life through the Holy Spirit
How do I apply this?
Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
In times of abundance:
· Do not be prideful
· Know that your hope is not dependent on riches which is full of uncertainty. Here today could be gone tomorrow.
· Our hope is in God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Final thoughts:
Our ever-shifting circumstances are not proof of God’s love or disappointment.
Rather, they are an opportunity to look for him in every season of life, giving thanks for every blessing both big and small, and trusting that he will safely guide us through every high and low point we experience.
