Why Colossians was written:
The church at Colossae was under attack from false teachers who were insulting the deity of Jesus; they were teaching that He was not actually God. Paul addressed these issues head-on.

Today we discuss Part 1 of the family - Husbands and Wives.

Wives – Submit yourselves to your own husband (KJV)

Submit: Offer, surrender, yield, accept

Ephesians 5:33
"...let the wife see that she respects her husband."

Husbands are fueled by the respect of their wife.

When a man is disrespected, it flows all the way to the core of his being and erodes his purpose.

When a man is disrespected, it cuts his legs out from under him. It is taking away the essence of what makes him a man.

The power of life and death are in the tongue. (Proverbs 18:21)

Start speaking respect into your husband's life and expecting to be lead and he will respond.

Husbands (3:19)

Paul says that a wife is to submit willingly to her husband, but nowhere does he say that husbands are to demand submission from their wives.

Husband, you are commanded to love your wife and not be harsh with them.

Love your wife.
When we think of love we often think of the infatuation stage of emotion but that is new young passion. Romance and obsessive crushes.

Love is a verb – it is more than emotion it is action and constant choice.

Love is what you do not what you feel.

Love your wife.

Your – not another, you chose her; choose her everyday

Love your wife.

Wife – your bride, spouse, companion, partner, mate.
Not your boat, your job, your friends, your hobbies, your neighbor’s wife

Love her as Christ loves the church and gave himself for her. (Ephesians 5:25)

Love her as you do yourself… we become one flesh.

How do I apply this?

This week commit to reading Ephesians 5:22-33 and ask God to speak to you in how this can transform your relationship at home.
Make a concerted effort to submit, respect, and love.

Choose each other everyday

Power Text: (Ephesians 5:33)
However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Final thoughts:

Use this word to help change the dynamic in your home. Love with intention.

If you are not married, this is still a powerful scripture to inform your future relationship and how you can speak into the lives of others.
